The Oswego County Health Department reports that the eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) virus has been found in mosquitoes collected in the village of Central Square and on county Route 6, south of NYS Route 3, in Volney. The virus was previously found in mosquitoes collected at Toad Harbor/Big Bay Swamp in West Monroe and in the northeastern section of the Town of Palermo.

Dozens of people and organizations have plenty of stuff – ready to cram it all into a school bus in support of the United Way of Greater Oswego County’s annual Stuff-A-Bus campaign. The United Way will have buses at eight convenient locations around the county on Aug. 10 so people can drop off their donations.
Several requests to use public space were sent to the full council for consideration. Among them is a parking plan that will assist developers in rehabilitating the former Cahill’s building and property.

In the city of Oswego too many city trees are being cut down in neighborhoods, not because they are diseased or a hazard, but because they’re in the way of someone wanting more parking spaces. As the co-founder of the Oswego Tree Stewards, I’ve learned a number of facts about trees I’d like to talk to you, the public, about.
The average temperature last month was 74.0 degrees. That is 3.2 degrees warmer than normal. “That makes it the seventh warmest July since 1845,” according to Bill Gregway, local observer for the National Weather Service. “Last July wound up number six; it was 74.1.”
