Hannibal’s Board of Education named the district’s next leader Wednesday.
He’s Edmund P. “Pete” Backus of Pulaski, a retired former Superintendent of Schools who has held short-term stints in the Mexico school district.
Backus will serve for an entire year, beginning in July.
Sheriff Reuel A. Todd is pleased to announce the appointment of Eugene F. Sullivan III to the position of Undersheriff of Oswego County. Undersheriff Sullivan is a 16-year member, being appointed by then Sheriff Charles F. Nellis, as a deputy in 1995.
Congressman Bill Owens will hold a “telephone town hall” this week. Owens will update callers on the state of Medicare as it relates to recent budget proposals, and take questions from callers from 11:00 a.m. to noon this Thursday, April 14. Those who want to be part of the town hall meeting must call or e-mail the Congressman’s office for an invitation.

Fulton Board of Education members approved a budget for 2011-12 Tuesday night that raises taxes about 3.5% while cutting spending, eliminating more than 20 positions and reducing two academic programs praised for keeping students in school.

Board members approved a decision to appeal the state Supreme Court ruling last month that dismissed the district’s petition challenging the tax agreement with Nine Mile Point Unit I. The board also approved the proposed budget for 2011-2012. The budget proposal is $74, 744,748 and contains a zero percent tax levy increase.
