UPDATED: As of 4:15 p.m. Thursday, Mayor Randy Bateman had lifted the Winter Parking Advisory. If it is at all possible, Mayor Bateman is asking residents to still continue not to park on city streets. “It makes it easier for the Department of Works to clear our streets, especially the smaller ones, for emergency vehicles,” he explained.
Therefore, until further notice we are requesting no parking on any city streets and no unnecessary travel. This will aid city resources in clearing city streets. Also, the Oswego City School District is closed today.
The proposed spending plan for the 2011-12 school year is likely to cut some staff. However, the superintendent pointed out Wednesday night that there might be a “cushion” that allows for some cuts to be restored. Superintendent of Schools Bill Lynch has said that the state’s proposed cut in aid, combined with the end of federal job-saving stimulus funds, put the district about $5 million behind last year’s $60 million budget.
Tuesday night, he finally put a number to that gap.
