The United Way of Greater Oswego County kicked off its annual campaign on Wednesday at The American Foundry in Oswego. “This year’s message is simple,” the executive director said. “When united, donor dollars provide assistance to every age in every corner of Oswego County. Individual contributions paired with a county-wide engagement create a much greater and lasting impression than any of us can ever imagine.”
The Oswego City School District has streamlined its school tax procedures; therefore, Oswego County will no longer be collecting OCSD school taxes.
The Fulton Common Council recently moved to change the location of the city’s first splash park, a 40 foot by 40 foot fenced concrete pad with sprinkler systems. Originally intended to be constructed at Recreation Park, the splash park will instead be located at Hulett Park in the city’s Fourth Ward.
Oswego Firefighters responded to a kitchen fire in a multi-family residence at 111 W Utica St. at approximately 12:42 a.m. today (September 12). Thanks to the quick response of Oswego Firefighters, the fire was contained to the kitchen in one apartment in a few minutes of arrival.
Fulton’s first responders gathered at City Hall to honor the victims of September 11, 2001 with a moment of silence. Seventeen years later, members of Fulton Fire Department, Fulton Police Department, and Menter Ambulance stood together to ensure they embody the mantra: “may we never forget.”
UPDATE: The Oswego County Sheriff’s Office has identified the second victim of an assault/homicide case in West Monroe on September 10. The second victim of the assault is 59-year-old Michael Shane of 451 County Route 11, West Monroe. Oswego County Undersheriff Eugene Sullivan said Matthew R. LeBoeuf, 33, charged with mudering Robert Diffin, 42, and leaving a second victim in critical condition did know the victims. Deputies are investigating to determine the capacity of their relationship.

On display near the podium was a chunk of a steel beam from the World Trade Center – a grim reminder of the Port City’s connection to the September 11, 2001, terrorist attack.
An arrest has been made in reference to the previously reported death that occurred at 347 Brecheimer Road in the town of West Monroe on Monday. Investigator have charged 33-year-old Mathew R. LeBoeuf of County Route 84, Central Square, with one count of murder in the second degree and one count of Assault in the first degree.
The Oswego County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the victim of an assault that occurred Monday at 347 Breckheimer Road, town of West Monroe. The deceased victim has been identified as Robert Diffin, 42, of 347 Breckheimer Road. At about 11:23 a.m. today (September 10), members of the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office were sent to 347 Breckheimer Road in West Monroe to assist emergency medical services. The victims were transported by Menter Ambulance to University Hospital At about 2:25 p.m., one of the victims was pronounced dead.
Operators removed Exelon Generation’s James A. FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant from service early this morning (September 10), beginning a planned refueling and maintenance outage that brings more than 1,500 additional workers to the region. The refueling outage will help ensure the plant runs safely and provides consistent, reliable power to the region for another two-year operating cycle.
