Burn Ban Still in Effect Throughout New York State

Oswego County Fire Coordinator Donald Forbes reminds county residents of the annual statewide ban on all open burning which began on March 16 and continues through May 14. “This is a high-risk period for fires throughout New York State,” said Forbes. “Despite recent snowfall, spring is not far off and outdoor fires will happen as tall grass, hay and brush dry.”

Museum Opens New Exhibition ‘Americans and the Holocaust’ – Featuring A Piece Of Oswego

Marking its 25th anniversary year, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum opened a new special exhibition, Americans and the Holocaust. It examines the motives, pressures and fears that shaped Americans’ responses to Nazism, war and the persecution and murder of Jews in Europe during the 1930s and ‘40s. Oswego, New York, is featured as part of the exhibition. A section of the fence was removed, treated, conserved, packaged and shipped to the curators at the U.S. Memorial Museum of the Holocaust in Washington DC.

Phoenix Man Charged With 4 Counts Of Rape

On Wednesday (April 25), sheriff’s deputies arrested Robert C. Henderson, 38, of 544 County Line Road, Phoenix, at 2:26 p.m. He was charged with four counts of third-degree rape, a class E felony; five counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a class A misdemeanor, and one count of third-degree sexual abuse, a Class B misdemeanor.

SUNY Oswego will wrap up its spring semester with 2018 OzFest on May 4, with daylong free activities for students and an evening concert featuring H.E.R. and A$AP Ferg. Afternoon activities, which start at 1 p.m. on the south lawn outside Marano Campus Center, include live bands such as Jordy Searcy, Black Tie Stereo and The Crane Wives. Carnival rides, games and attractions such as bungee bounce, toxic crush, toxic drop and wrecking ball will invite students to race, ride or admire from afar.

2 Oswego DPW Workers Arrested On Drug Charges

UPDATE: Mayor Barlow has terminated employment for both of the individuals involved.
Two Oswego city DPW workers were reportedly arrested on drug charges Tuesday morning. Officers responding to an unrelated incident at the Route 104 East McDonald’s around 10:30 a.m. observed “suspicious activity” involving two DPW workers.

Clean Sweep Conducted in Minetto/Volney Areas

Earth Day and Canal Clean Sweep was a busy weekend around the Minetto area. On Saturday, Minetto had its Canal Clean Sweep. On Sunday, members of Exelon’s North American Young Generation in Nuclear volunteered with several members of Friends of Great Bear to cut and clear brush at the historic Spring House, adjacent to the Oswego River and historic canal tow path. A roadside litter pick up on Route 57 was conducted by Cayuga Community College students Monday.
