One year after the FitzPatrick Nuclear Generating Facility’s announced shut down date, the station is an economic engine driving significant investment with local and diverse businesses. The investments at FitzPatrick are part of Exelon Generation’s commitment to supplier diversity, providing access to greater opportunities for minority, women and veteran-owned suppliers and boosting economic growth in local communities.

Commercial truck drivers are in urgent demand in Oswego County. Because of the shortage of qualified licensed commercial drivers, the Oswego County Workforce New York office is working closely with local companies to recruit and help train people to fill vacant positions. Although some drivers still spend “six days on the road” as described in the classic song, working conditions for commercial truck drivers have improved significantly over the past several years.

According to the Oswego Fire Department, an adult male was hospitalized after an overnight incident at Wright’s Landing in Oswego. According to officials, the driver of a white Volkswagen drove out about 100 yards onto the ice at Wright’s Landing sometime before 5 a.m., when the vehicle fell through and sank. The victim was able to get himself out of the water, and was transported to the hospital for evaluation.

A group of SUNY Oswego students came to understand India as a land of hope after traveling for two weeks during the college’s winter break to learn from people living in Kolkata (Calcutta), West Bengal, India. Through the “Practicum in International Development” course, eight students and Christy Huynh, associate director of career services, joined human development faculty member Dr. Mamta Saxena touring Indian cultural sites and villages, and speaking with people in the Kolkata region in connection with a program of St. Xavier’s College.
