My name is Jacob Greene, I am 12 and I attend Fulton Junior High. As a Reality Check member, I will be educating my peers about World No Tobacco Day. World No Tobacco Day is a global effort to reduce the negative impact of tobacco in our communities. For just one day, I would like to ask members of my community to quit smoking.

Tomorrow, May 16, is the day to vote on the school budget and elect three people for seats on the Hannibal Board of Education. As a reminder, the vote is from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the District Office. I encourage anyone who resides within the Hannibal School District to go out and vote tomorrow. I, Heather Ladd, am running for a seat on the Board of Education as a write-in candidate.

As a Republican candidate for the District 15 seat on the Oswego County Legislature, I was invited to attend the Oswego City Republican Committee endorsement meeting. My opponent, Nathan Emmons, is a committee member as is Mayor Billy Barlow and council members Shawn Walker, John Gosek Jr., and Robert Corradino. I knew going in that the committee would endorse my opponent, and they did.

I am writing this letter to once again ask for the support of my community as a candidate for reelection to the Fulton Board of Education on May 16. During my 12 years of board service (between 2001 and 2017), I have done my best to represent all of the members of our community and school district. I have advocated for our district’s needs at the State and the Federal levels.

Lake Ontario southern and eastern shore communities are bracing for flooding as they are faced with lake levels more than 20 inches above the norm, and still rising. The probability of extensive flooding and significant property loss is extremely high. The imminent threat to south shore communities necessitates a proactive engagement by state and federal officials.

Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River are running about 21” higher than average. So are the passions of shoreline property owners impacted by the high levels, and some elected officials. Anger, frustration and a demand for answers are understandable reactions when homes and property are threatened. Unfortunately, the blame is misplaced and the solution sought is no solution at all.

The Fresh Air Fund looks forward to celebrating National Volunteer Week every year. I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to our inspiring volunteers, hosts and supporters in the New York Lakes region. Their continued dedication to our New York City children is exemplary and truly embodies the spirit of National Volunteer Week, which is from April 23 to 29 this year.

This past summer, the expected closure of the FitzPatrick nuclear facility in Scriba was avoided. All 615 jobs were saved as a result of strong interventions by Governor Andrew Cuomo and his staff. Now, after all of this, New York State Assembly members (and some Senators) from the Downstate New York City and Long Island area are basically saying: “FOUL! We had no say in this!”

My name is Rachel LeVea. I am 17 years old and I am a 12th grade student at G.Ray Bodley High School. Nearly 10 percent of Americans in my age range are already smokers. Furthermore, 5.6 million Americans under age 18 will die early due to a smoking-related illness. On Kick Butts Day, I will declare that I will not be included in either of those statistics.
