Election Day is rapidly approaching and there are a number of candidates running for office this year in addition to the Presidential contest dominating the news. One of those positions is Justice of the Supreme Court in 5th Judicial District. This jurisdiction covers six counties and is a mid-level judgeship in New York State, which is not to be confused with the nine positions of the United States Supreme Court in Washington DC.

On October 13 the Oswego County Legislature passed a resolution increasing the fees to attend Camp Hollis. Fees were increased for all groups, youth groups, adult groups, and individual campers. The increases may seem to be minor but to many youth and youth groups it could mean the difference in being able to attend a safe haven or staying home.

There’s a public hearing on Oct. 18 to discuss the raising of garbage rates in the city of Fulton. The rates purposed are to go from $51 a quarter to $63 a quarter. That means it will go from $204 a year to $252 a year. A sticker to use the county landfill will be only $185 a year. I agree with the fact that the rates have to be raised to cover the increased tipping fees imposed by the county.

Oswego County Opportunities Cancer Services Program of Oswego County applauds the recent legislation passed by New York State designed to help more women access breast cancer screening. The legislation includes the elimination of patient cost sharing for screening mammograms and requires hospitals and clinics to expand their screening hours.

Improving a company’s overall public image can begin with adopting a tobacco-free policy for worksite grounds. Growing evidence suggests that secondhand smoke can be just as harmful outdoors as it is indoors. Creating a tobacco-free policy will protect the health of both employees and visitors, in addition to reducing tobacco litter.

This year we have been celebrating the 200th birthday of our county. During this year we have been enlightened by Legislator (Shawn) Doyle’s renditions about Historic moments in Oswego County. I would like to take you forward: The year: 2216

Signs signs everywhere a sign blocking up the scenery blowing my mind vote for this, don’t vote for that, aren’t you tired of all of those signs. I loved that song when it came out. I changed the words to fit the situation. It’s that time of year again. Election time!
