Oswego Superintendent of Schools Explains The Budget Process

Financial plans for public schools are built on a delicate balance between reasonable expenditures, and revenue from state aid and taxes. In finding balance with the proposed budget for the 2014-2015 school year, the district leaders and members of the board of education have worked diligently to craft a spending plan that is efficient yet supportive of our educational mission. Over the next several weeks, as your superintendent of schools, I will be presenting the budget to various groups and answering questions to inform our community of the budget proposal.

Child Advocacy Center Acknowledges Community Support

On behalf of the hundreds of children and their families that we serve at the Child Advocacy Center of Oswego County I would like to thank those caring businesses and individuals who helped to make our third Annual Chicken Wing & Micro-Brew Fest such a success! The event raised more than $15,000 to help support our efforts to provide vital services to children who have been sexually or physically abused, neglected or maltreated.

In recent news, CVS/Caremark has announced their plans to end all tobacco sales by October 1 of this year. This is a huge step forward for public health. It has been a conflict of interest for pharmacies, providers of health care, to also profit from the sale of harmful products such as tobacco, known to cause cancer, heart and pulmonary diseases.

Thank You For Supporting Blood Drive in Parish

On Saturday, January 25, the New Hope Presbyterian Church held its annual American Red Cross Blood Drive at the Parish Fire Station. Despite the cold and the busy-ness of everyone’s lives, we welcomed fifty-nine willing donors. The end results were fifty-five units of blood collected, which has the potential to save 165 lives.
