In the July Infrastructure committee meeting you will recall I asked for discussion about the county’s rental fee of county highway department equipment. No surprise to many of you was the fact that of the legislators in attendance three of them that are in a contested re-election race didn’t say a word in favor or against the rental fee.
“Ask and you shall receive.” An old saying; but what you receive isn’t always what you want. If some of you remember from a recent letter in the media, I asked the Chairman of the Legislature to have the County Rental Fee of County Highway Equipment be revisited by the full legislative body.
In light of myself and Legislator Farfaglia asking to have the highway rental fee revisited, I again reached out to some of our fellow NYSAC members to find out what their policies were.
United Way of Oswego County extends a sincere thank you to the many volunteers and sponsors whose commitment to the United Way 2015 Golf Tournament again made the event an outstanding success. This year’s golf tournament, again featuring morning and afternoon flights, hosted 42 teams and raised more than $26,000.

The 16th Annual Hospice Cup Regatta, held on June 20, raised $23,000. That will be used to support Oswego County Hospice patients and their families. Our success is directly tied to the support we receive from this community, both businesses and individuals.
As New York State prepares to renew or make permanent the cap on local government property tax levies, a new report by the Pew Charitable Trusts highlights why local property taxes in New York State are so high. The problem has little to do with local governments and won’t be solved by a tax cap.
The Bi-Partisan Minority Conference in the Oswego County Legislature suggests replacing a “temporary” employee. Last Year when Mark See (the county’s Chief Accountant) decided to retire after more than a quarter century of service, it was our hope that his replacement would be just as qualified and competent. He or she had some big shoes to fill.
May is Community Action Month across the United States. This is a time to celebrate the efforts of Community Action Agencies across the country as they fight poverty by highlighting their role in helping low-income families move out of poverty and achieve economic security.
