I know that I should be doing something to control fleas on my pets but the products that my vet sells are so expensive. Are there over the counter products that I see in stores just as effective? Are they safe?

I am an avid gardener, but also a pet lover and I worry all the time that the “stuff†I use in my garden, even though I try to use mostly organic products and controls, might harm them. But they are always outside with me and roaming around and investigating every new smell and I just worry. Do you have any advice.

My dog King hates loud noises and last year he had conniption fits (or at least the dog equivalent) every time there were any fireworks even faintly audible over the Fourth of July. What can I do to make this weekend less stressy and difficult for him.
Dear Buddy, I just adopted a new puppy, Minnie, and put up a nice strong fence in my back yard so she would have a place to play. But she seems to hate going out there and then just sits looking at me through the window. What am I doing wrong?

Help!!! My dog Delilah is a wonderful companion when I am home with her, but when I leave, even for a short period of time, she apparently goes on a rampage. She chews furniture, gnaws on the wood baseboards, knocks things over, and my neighbors tell me that she barks incessantly. I have no idea what to do. She is so good when I am with her. Someone suggested medication for anxiety, but I hate to give pills to a dog until I have tried everything else.
“Florida” was last seen near Route 104 West in Oswego – close to SUNY Oswego.
I am very concerned. I just saw an ad in the New York Times placed by an organization called HumaneWatch.org. It said, “The Humane Society of the United States is NOT your local animal shelter. In fact, it gives less than one-half of one percent of its $100 million budget to hands-on pet shelters. Meanwhile, this wealthy animal rights group socked away over $2.5 million of Americans’ donations in its own pension plans.”
I just adopted Gordo, a new cat, and I was told he was litter box trained, but he won’t use mine. It’s getting a little messy in the “cat room.†What can I do? Help!
