It is obvious the safety procedures in place must be evaluated and improved to protect students, teachers and staff working in New York schools. WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S Senators Kirsten Gillibrand and Roger Marshall (R-KS) introduced the bipartisan More Options to Develop and Enhance Remote Nutrition in WIC Act (MODERN WIC). The bill would make WIC benefits more accessible to low-income families by allowing them to certify and recertify for WIC services remotely. When the pandemic-era waivers expire, under current law, WIC participants will have to get certified for, pick up, and reload benefits in person at a WIC office.

Gillibrand Secures Commitment From Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin To Expand Basic Needs Allowance Eligibility For Military Families

After meeting with military families facing food insecurity last year, Senator Gillibrand called on the Department of Defense (DoD) to reassess eligibility calculations for the Basic Needs Allowance (BNA) and to accelerate the implementation of the expansion of eligibility for the BNA program to service members earning up to 150% of the federal poverty line, up from the current 130%. Today, she secured a commitment from Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to expand eligibility up to six months early. This expansion will help ensure that service members have the necessary income to afford basic household items and keep food on the table.

Legislature Must Fix Serious Flaws Created By ‘Raise The Age’

Earlier this week, I joined with members of the Assembly Minority Conference and district attorneys to call for changes to the state’s criminal justice policy that is clearly compromising public safety. The “Raise the Age” law was passed in the 2017-2018 budget. While it may have been well-intentioned, too many of the components simply are not working.
