Several members of the Pulaski Varsity Girls Volleyball team were recognized for their outstanding achievement during the recent season with league and section honors.

The January Oswego High School “Athletes of the Month” were hockey players senior Zach Zerrahn, boys’ hockey and freshman Allie Rodgers, girls’ hockey.

Oswego Speedway Supermodified veteran Jerry Curran will kick off his 2014 racing season this Saturday (March 8) at the Woodchuck Saloon in Oswego with a chicken barbeque race team fundraiser.

Novelis Supermodified Rookie of the Year contender, Jessica Zemken, will highlight an Oswego Speedway driver autograph session to be held at the Gater Racing News Motorsports Expo at the New York State Fairgrounds on Sunday beginning at 1 p.m.

Liberty League commissioner Tracy King recently announced the 234 winter sport student-athletes who have qualified for the league’s All-Academic Teams in their respective sports. Ashlynn Palmitesso of Fulton, a sophomore on the women’s basketball team, is among the honorees. Ashlynn is in RIT’s biomedical engineering program.

The Oswego State baseball team wrapped up its weekend play with a 4-2 victory over New Jersey City in a seven-inning, rain-shortened game. With the win, Oswego improves its early-season record to 2-1.

The No. 3-seeded Oswego State men’s ice hockey team knocked off No. 2 Plattsburgh in the semifinals of the SUNYAC Championship in Strafford Ice Arena on Saturday night. It is the second-straight weekend that the Lakers took down their archrivals on the road and with this Saturday’s win, Oswego has advanced to the SUNYAC Championship game.

With the split, Oswego is 1-1 on the year and will play at Wesley again at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday but this time will face New Jersey City University.
