Spring sports contests are hearing up for OHS
Saturday night the Fulton Speedway opened the 2012 season with a bang on A-Verdi Storage Containers night. Steve Poirier out of Quebec bested a stout field of 42 of the best 360 Sprint car drivers in the Northeast in round one of the Patriot Sprint Tour, while Tim Sears Jr. grabbed the checkers in both the NAPA Late Models and SUNY Canton Sportsman.
The Oswego State men’s lacrosse team (8-3, 1-3 SUNYAC) fell behind 8-1 after the first quarter, and was never able to get its offense going in a 20-6 decision to Geneseo (1-7, 1-1 SUNYAC) Saturday afternoon.
A walk-off single by Oswego State’s Mike Stark in the bottom of the 11th inning finished off a sweep of pitchers’ duels at Laker Baseball Field Saturday. The 1-0 and 3-2 victories over New Paltz (16-13, 3-7 SUNYAC) extended the Lakers’ (14-15, 5-5) current winning streak to five games.
Nationally-ranked Cortland proved to be too much for the Oswego State softball team, as the Red Dragons (26-4, 10-0) posted 7-1 and 10-2 wins over the Lakers (9-14, 4-6 SUNYAC) Saturday afternoon.
Brockport scored nine of the final ten goals in the first half to grab an 11-4 lead over the Oswego State women’s lacrosse team, and looked back as the Lakers (3-6, 0-4 SUNYAC) were defeated 23-11 by the Golden Eagles (8-2, 4-1 SUNYAC) Saturday afternoon on Senior Day.
The Fulton YMCA Speed Demons swim team celebrated a successful season at its annual awards banquet at the Fulton Polish Home recently. The 75 members of the team and their families enjoyed a summer fun-themed meal, accepted awards and honored its departing senior Chris Pridat.
Oswego varsity softball went two-for-two Wednesday and Thursday with a pair of victories.
A three-run eighth inning helped the Oswego State baseball team (12-15, 3-5 SUNYAC) erase five errors and earn a 6-4 come-from-behind SUNYAC win over New Paltz (16-11, 3-5) at Laker Baseball Field on Friday.
