The local sports season is in full swing as the baseball, girls’ track and both varsity lacrosse teams were in action on Thursday. It was “Matt and the Bats” appearing at Leighton Field diamond as the Buc varsity baseball kicked off the 2011 season.
A whole new sport joins the local landscape when Oz Roller Girls flat-track derby hosts Cortland’s Crown City Royal Pains on April 23 at the Crisafulli Rink. The Oz Roller Girls are among many new leagues in New York state for the fast-growing sport.
Oswego lacrosse teams were back in action on Tuesday as Liverpool provided the opposition. In Liverpool, the OHS boys’ varsity lost 16-9 to the host Warriors for the first loss of the season. In Oswego at Wilber Field, the Lady Bucs lost 16-6.
The Buc varsity boys’ lacrosse team moved to 3-0 on the year with a 10-5 win over visiting Watertown in less than ideal conditions on Friday night at the Turrill Street Field. The Bucs got behind 2-1 after one quarter, but four in the second and a quartet of goals in the third put this game on ice.
Novelis has partnered with the Tri-Oswego 2011 Triathlon as the presenting sponsor of the upcoming event scheduled for June 25th and 26th in Oswego, according to Tri-Oswego Race Director Ron Nelson.
Freshman pitcher Jessica Palmitesso threw a no-hitter in game two to help the Oswego State softball team salvage a series split against New Paltz in a 9-0, five-inning victory on Sunday in Oswego.
