Charlotte Award Nominees Revealed

OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego Reading Council will reveal the Charlotte Award nominees for this year at their meeting Tuesday.

Named for the main character in E.B. White’s Charlotte’s Web, the purpose of the Charlotte Award is to encourage students to read outstanding literature and ultimately become life-long readers.

Additionally, the award recognizes the authors and illustrators of such literature.

Students in New York State will read titles on the ballot and vote for their favorites.

Votes were tallied and the 2008 winners received their awards at the annual NYSRA Statewide Conference.

The books nominated for the 2010 award in all three categories – primary, intermediate and young adult will be on display. They will also be read (various selections) to peak your interest!

In addition to seeing and hearing the books first hand – attendees will be provided with different ways they can incorporate these books into their current lesson plans.

We look forward to seeing you October 20 for this fabulous and exciting event.

The event will be 4:15 – 7 p.m. in the Bea Emerson Library, New Haven Elementary School, Route 104.

There will be light refreshments.

The cost is free to ORC members/$10 for non-members or $5 if attend with a member
