165th Oswego County Fair Open July 3-7 in Sandy Creek

OSWEGO COUNTY – “Stars, Stripes and Summer Nights” is the theme for the 165th annual Oswego County Fair which opens on Wednesday, July 3 and runs through Sunday, July 7.

The free event came back to July 4th weekend last year to encourage more visitors over the holiday, and this year, it returns to five full days of activities and fun for the whole family!

Kids and families will enjoy traditional fair entertainment with Rides by Ontario Amusements and Shane Hansen’s Rock-N-Circus. The ride schedule starts at noon Thursday through Sunday and Hansen offers several showtimes to witness his awe-inspiring feats Wednesday through Sunday.

Other highlights include the Talent Show and Johnston Irish Dancers on Wednesday and Barnyard Olympics on Friday. On Saturday, enjoy the Lake Ontario Vintage Tractor Drive, George’s Fair Chicken BBQ and Fireworks by Young’s Explosives! Come back bright and early on Sunday for a car show at 9 a.m.

Every day, visit Robin’s Heavenly Birds and Hartley’s Hartwood woodcarving demonstrations, browse a vintage tractor show, sign up for the kids’ daily bike drawing and scavenger hunt, and enjoy the return of the dairy bar in its new location across from the entertainment building.

Live music is also back and better than ever! Buffalo Barfield’s Unherd of Entertainment brings audiences back to the roots of American music with daily shows throughout the fair.

The Fiddlers take over the entertainment building from 1 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, followed by Mariah McConnell Music at 6 p.m. On Thursday, Mariah Kat takes the stage from 5 to 7 p.m. while Kickin’ Up Dust rocks out from 7 to 10 p.m. on Friday. The Fiddlers return from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, followed by Still Kickin’ in the house from 6 to 9 p.m. December Shyne rounds out this year’s line-up with a show from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Don’t forget to check out this year’s Grandstand schedule! The Demolition Derby starts at 5 p.m. on Thursday with another at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Admission is $10 for each show. Friday features Truck Pulls at 4 p.m. with admission of $15. Sunday begins with Tractor Pulls at 9 a.m. and admission is free.

In keeping with its origins as the Oswego County Agricultural Society, the Fair has animal shows – featuring horses, poultry, swine, beef and dairy cows, and sanctioned goat and rabbit contests – scheduled throughout the event.

This year’s Fair also showcases the newly re-modeled Fair Café, formerly the Grange Building, along with the re-designed youth building with a hands-on interactive village.

Mark your calendars for Senior and Elected Officials Day on Wednesday; Veterans and First Responders Day on Thursday; Family Day on Friday; Children’s Day on Saturday and Agriculture Day on Sunday.

Fair buildings are open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The fairgrounds open at 8 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Shows and activities are scheduled at various times throughout the fair.
