2015 Summer Robotics Program Offered

OSWEGO – The Northern New York Robotics Academy at Clarkson University in partnership with The Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation, will be providing high school students with five days of hands-on, project-based STEM instruction to solve a robotics challenge that is based on a past First Tech Challenge using Tetrix and Mindstorms NXT kits.

The program will be held August 17-21 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Solvay Middle School.

The price is $175 per student, due after acceptance into the program.

Applications are available in the Oswego High School guidance office and the deadline for application is May 15.

There are a limited number of spaces available for this year’s program so interested persons need to complete the application requirements and submit the materials to:

Williams Jones, Arts-In-Education, Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation, 179 County Route 64, Mexico, NY 13114.

There are only 24 total spaces available for the entire program this year, so applications will be reviewed by a panel of judges and students will be notified.

Applicants will not be negatively marked due to a lack of experience in the field.

Skills developed during the 2015 Summer Robotics program will include: basic mechanical engineering design, modeling and construction; basic electrical and computer engineering design, implementation of various sensors, actuators, and embedded microcontroller programming using LabVIEW. LabVIEW is a system-design platform and integrated development environment that supports graphical dataflow programming used by many industries and taught at institutions of higher education like Clarkson University.

The final day of the five-day program will conclude with a friendly tournament that is open to the public and allows student teams to demonstrate their challenge solutions.
