OSWEGO COUNTY – The 2024 Oswego County Senior Fair, held on September 17 at the Lake Ontario & Event and Conference Center, brought together more than 200 seniors who enjoyed an afternoon of resources, services, and community support. Hosted by Senator John Mannion, in partnership with the Caring Community Advocates of Oswego County (CCAOC) and generously sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association Central New York Chapter, the event was praised by many seniors as the best Senior Fair they had ever attended.

“It was incredible to hear such positive feedback from our guests. Many attendees commented that this was the most comprehensive and enjoyable Senior Fair they’ve participated in,” said Joelle Hutson, Coordinator of Community Health at Oswego County Opportunities (OCO). “It takes a village to put on an event of this magnitude, and we are grateful to all our partners who made it possible.”

The Caring Community Advocates, a subcommittee of the Rural Health Network of Oswego County, played a vital role in coordinating the event. This year’s Senior Fair had more than 60 vendors, who offered information about health resources, wellness tips, and a wide variety of services for the benefit of our senior community. “Having a network of over 30 organizations at CCAOC makes it easier for us to pull together resources for our seniors and their families,” Hutson added.

A major highlight of this year’s fair was the inclusion of COVID, flu and shingles vaccines, a welcomed expansion to the range of services offered. The event was held at the Lake Ontario Event and Conference Center, a beautiful venue operated by the Broadwell Hospitality Group. “Working with George Broadwell, Jr. and his team was seamless—they’ve always made event planning so smooth for us,” said Hutson.

The Alzheimer’s Association CNY Chapter generous sponsorship, allowed the Senior Fair to provide high-quality, delicious meals to all attendees. Beyond the Senior Fair, their support funded an update to Oswego County’s Community Resource Books, which will be mailed to attendees in early 2025. These books will ensure that seniors have access to essential local resources long after the event.

Special thanks to Jennifer Rice from CenterWell Homecare, who co-chairs CCAOC and provides essential administrative and organizational support to the Senior Fair. “Jennifer was crucial in ensuring the event’s success and making sure everything ran smoothly,” said Hutson.

Additionally, Novelis once again played an important role in the fair’s success by sending volunteers to assist seniors carry items to their cars, opening doors, and offering support where needed. “Novelis volunteers are a testament to the spirit of community service, and we couldn’t have done this without them,” said Hutson.

This event demonstrated that it truly “takes a village” to make the Senior Fair a success. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our partners, seniors, and attendees for making this year’s fair the best yet. Be on the lookout for a Save the Date for the 2025 Senior Fair, which will be announced in the spring.
