ALTMAR, PARISH, WILLIAMSTOWN – Following is a letter from APW CSD Superintendent, Dr. Naomi Ryfun regarding the rise of flu cases throughout the district:

Dear APW Parents and Guardians,

We are seeing a rapid increase in the number of children testing positive for influenza (flu). Of the nine districts in Oswego County, APW has the second highest rate of influenza for children ages 5-17.

Influenza vaccine is readily available and is offered by primary care providers, school-based health centers, pharmacies, and at the local health department. The Oswego County Health Department offers influenza vaccinations Monday and Fridays, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Patients are welcome to walk-in during those times.

We encourage you to continue to keep sick children home, even if they have a negative COVID-19 test. Children should stay home until fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications and have improving symptoms.

There is no better time to get vaccinated than right now, especially with the holiday season upon us.

Stay Safe,

Dr. Naomi Ryfun
