4-H Environmental Center Day Camp Continues in Amboy

By: Lynnsey Slocum and Emily Fetyko
AMBOY – The 4-H Environmental Center in Amboy, a day camp, started July 6 and runs through August 16 on weekdays from 8 a.m. to noon.

This camp is run in partnership with the APW school district, Cornell Cooperative Extension and AmeriCorps.

AmeriCorps is a national program that engages adults and young adults in public service work with a goal of helping others as well as their community.

Lynnsey Slocum and Emily Fetyko are the AmeriCorps members working at the 4-H Center this year.

As AmeriCorps members, they teach fitness and nutrition to campers to help guide them into choosing healthy habits and alternatives in their normal day.

We have played games like capture the cucumber, calcium relay and beach ball tic-tac-toe.

We have talked about making our grains whole, about proportions and how much should be on our plate, and so much more.

Being at the 4-H Environmental Center has been truly amazing, they said.

Campers have had the chance to explore nature and learn about its wonders and what it holds.

They have caught frogs in the pond, went on nature hikes finding different creatures, and went in the creek trying to catch crayfish.

The possibilities are endless at the 4-H Center day camp. missing or outdated ad config
