A Letter to The Editor From Friends of The Library

A Letter to the Editor,

On Tuesday, May 15t city of Oswego residents will vote on the Oswego Public Library 2012-13 operating budget appropriation.

Friends of the Library, a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization, consisting of local patrons committed to expanding and enriching the programs of the Oswego Public Library, is encouraging the community to get out and vote on the annual proposition.

Friends of the Library maintains a supporting role in the Oswego Public Library’s ongoing community-based educational initiatives, and is proud of the growth the library has shown since the completion of the restoration and expansion project in 2008.

Over the past four years, the library has seen increases in ALL areas of patron usage,
and has introduced a variety of programs, services, and resources to the greater Oswego community.

Some of those highlights include:

– The Oswego Public Library recently surpassed 10,000 cardholders.

– Since July 2011, the Library’s Public Computer Center has offered 214 class sessions that have included Introduction to Computers, Internet Basics, Microsoft Word, Publisher, Powerpoint, and Excel. The Library has had over 1,463 people take advantage of the classes and/or one-on-one assistance for creating resumes, cover letters, etc.

– The Erik and Emily Cole Community Room and board meeting room continues to be used by various community organizations and programming.

– GED classes are being held twice a week during the morning enabling individuals to obtain their high school diploma.

The Oswego Public Library continues to be a leader and integral part of our community – built upon the vision and aspirations of founder Gerrit Smith back in 1857, when the doors were first opened.

Friends of the Library takes great pride in its longstanding partnership with the Oswego Public Library, and encourages the Oswego community to exercise their vote on May 15th.

Thank you,

Friends of the Library Board of Directors missing or outdated ad config
