A New Business Opens In Fulton

FULTON, NY – There is new kid on the block in Fulton – literally.

Gifts and Gardens, an eclectic collection of one-of-a-kind gifts and decor, opened Sept. 6 at 109 W. Broadway.

The store had its ribbon cutting recently and will be celebrating its grand-opening Sept. 18 from 12-5 p.m.

Shoppers will be treated to refreshments and some of the most interesting gift ideas owner, Ellen Gaffney, could come up with.

“I wanted a store unlike any other gift store out there,” said Gaffney. “I wanted beautiful, different and affordable. I like to think of it as shabby chic.”

Many of the items are made from what you might consider junk or not worth saving, Gaffney said.

Gaffney’s unique perspective helped her create lamps from old wine bottles, flower arrangements out of old salt and pepper shakers and wall hangings out of everything from old barn wood to old farming implements.

There are also many interesting vintage pieces of furniture and fabrics.

She has even created “Yard Fancys,” everyday items she has put together to create fabulous pieces of art for the yard and garden.

But if gifts aren’t your thing, Gaffney also offers landscaping services.

She uses her innate sense of style to create lovely living areas for yourself or others. If you can think it, she can do it, said Gaffney.

The store is the culmination of many months and years of hard work for Gaffney.

Working hard all of her life at regular jobs, Gifts and Gardens has given Gaffney the chance to make her creative dreams come true. Talk to her friends and neighbors and they will tell you about how Gaffney is forever taking things that most people would dismiss.

She has even recruited her husband, David, into refinishing, painting, cutting, sanding and creating with her and her mother sometimes runs register.

“I could not have done this without all my friends and family,” Gaffney said. “They have cheered me on and done all they can to help me get this store up and running. I can’t wait for everyone to come in and see what has been done here.”

Since each piece is unique, shoppers can be assured that no one will have any item they purchase. Nothing is mass produced and no one, not even Gaffney, is sure what will appear in the store next.

“It’s like Christmas every time you go in there – always a new creation,” a friend of Gaffney’s said. “There is something for every one in every price range.”

Come and see what Gifts and Gardens has for you.
