OSWEGO – As part of its History Lecture Series, the H. Lee White Maritime Museum at Oswego is pleased to present famed local author, sailor and advocate Susan Peterson Gateley on September 24 at 1:30 p.m.
Known for her previous works such as Legends and Lore of Lake Ontario and Maritime Tales of Lake Ontario, Gateley will be presenting on her most recent work, a documentary and book titled “Lake Ontario: A Quest for Hope.”
Serving as a recent ecological history and present day overview of Lake Ontario, the feature length documentary features underwater and drone photography, explores lake shore marshes, views tributary fish runs, and provides an eagle’s eye view of Lake Ontario bluffs shorelines and islands.
The production team also sets sail aboard an antique schooner to visit and film a remote Canadian island.
Several experts on policy and the lake’s ecology also share what has been done and what more needs to happen to restore the lake’s web of life.
Portions of the documentary will be presented during her talk.
Gateley will have books available for purchase and the author will sign books after the event.
The author is well known for a series of books focused on sailing and Lake Ontario.
This lecture will be at the Maritime Museum, at the West First Street Pier.
The event is free and open to the public.
