Granby Elementary School recently announced its top Accelerated Readers for the 2013-14 school year and rewarded Accelerated Reader participants in grades two through sixth who met their reading goals with an afternoon celebration that included cupcakes, refreshments and activities around the school.

The Accelerated Reading program is a national program designed to inspire children to read.
Students at Granby sign AR books out of the school library, read the books, take computerized reading comprehension tests and earn points based on the number of questions answered correctly.
Approximately 160 students participated in AR at Granby in the 2013-14 school year, second grade had the highest number of participants, followed by fourth. For the 2013-14 school year, students read 58,158,659 words and took 11,996 quizzes.
The top 25 readers are: Skyler Gibson, Benjamin Demars, Sean Prock, Gary Witkovsky, Andrew Searor, Leah Kingsbury, Kieran O’Hanlon, Andrew Smith, Julie Raymond, Cameron Connolly, Abigail Waters, John MacArthur, Bryanna Howard, Dalton Bristol, Matthew McCarty, Nathaniel Archer, Sidney Bradshaw, Cody Szymanski, De’Nayah Orr, Aiden Trude, William Brown, Frederick White, Lydia Mirabito, Dominick Busch and Paityn Cali.
