Altmar Elementary School (AES) hosted a Veteran’s Day ceremony, honoring the men and women who served in our country’s armed forces and giving special thanks for their efforts to win, protect and defend our country’s freedom. The observance was hosted during a recent school and community gathering and offered a special time to recognize local military veterans with ties to the school.
The special veteran guests of honor were relatives of current AES students and were treated to a musical rendition of Toby Keith’s “American Soldier” before they were invited to introduce themselves to the audience. Each guest shared a little bit of information about their military experience including years of service and locations where they were deployed and some even shared personal stories and experiences.
Following the gathering the guests of honor were invited to a reception in the school’s library where they were treated to doughnuts, cookies, and coffee while perusing the students’ Veteran’s-themed artwork and projects.
