Andrew’s Wine Cellar Hosting Series of Wine Tasting Events in December

OSWEGO, New York – Andrew’s Wine Cellar will welcome 15 different Finger Lakes wineries to their numerous holiday wine tasting events being held in the month of December.

Andrew’s will kick off their December series of wine tastings on Friday, December 4^th from 4-7 p.m. They will welcome representatives from five New York State wineries including: Thirsty Owl Wine Company, Fox Run Vineyards, Hickory Hollow Wine Cellars, White Springs Farm Winery and Highland Cellars.

The second December tasting event will be held on Friday, December 11^th from 4-7pm. Finger Lakes wineries Glenora, Keuka Springs, Cascata, Bellwether Hard Cider, and Knapp Winery will have representatives on hand at the event.

The final tasting event in the December series will bring in five additional Finger Lakes wineries including Torrey Ridge, Americana Vineyards, Prejean Winery, Hunt Country Vineyards and Earle Estates Meadery.

Thirsty Owl Wine Company was formed by Jonathan Cupp in 2002. The winery covers 150 acres including 2,000 feet of Cayuga Lake frontage in Ovid. Thirsty Owl won “Best White Wine”, “Best Dry Riesling”, a Double Gold Medal and a “Governor’s Cup” for their 2006 Dry Riesling at the 2007 New York Wine and Food Classic.

Owned by Scott Osborn, Fox Run Vineyards planted its first grapes in 1984. In 1996, the state-of-the-art facility was built overlooking Seneca Lake. Currently 55 acres of a variety of wine grapes are grown there. Fox Run has won many awards over the years including a double gold for their 2005 Reserve Riesling at the 2007 NY Wine and Food Classic. In 2008 Wine & Spirits Magazine named Fox Run Vineyards one of the top 100 wineries in the world for 2008. That was the first time any New York state winery had ever made that list.

Hickory Hollow and Highland Wine Cellars share a location in Dundee, New York on beautiful Seneca Lake in the heart of the Finger Lakes. Highland Cellars’ 2006 Riesling recently received a score of 86 from the publication, Wine Spectator.

White Springs Winery is located just south of the City of Geneva. Founded in 2003 by owner Carl Fribolin, White Springs Winery includes 40 acres of vineyards. They offer a wide selection of wines. James Molesworth, of Wine Spectator recently gave a rating of 87 to White Springs Winery’s 2007 Riesling.  He noted it as one of “nine noteworthy white wines from New York’s Finger Lakes region that offer excellent value.”

Located in Dundee, New York, on Seneca Lake, Glenora Winery first opened in 1977.  Just three decades later, they produce 45,000 cases, host 85,000 visitors, and have won 75 medals at international wine competitions in one year alone.

Located in Penn Yan, New York, overlooking beautiful Keuka Lake, Keuka Spring’s vineyards are in an excellent location for growing and ripening wine grapes. Owned and operated by Len and Judy Wiltberger and family, Keuka Springs Vineyards consistently produces, high-quality, award-winning wine, hand-crafted from vine to bottle.

Founded in 1995, Cascata Winery is located in Watkins Glen, near Seneca Lake. Their wines include examples of dry and semi-dry Vinifera, as well as dry and semi-dry French-American hybrids.

Bellwether Hard Cider is located in the Finger Lakes Region of Upstate New York. They specialize in the production of hard cider. They use a wide variety of Upstate New York apples to produce a variety of premium ciders ranging from extremely dry Champagne-style ciders, to a semi-dry non-sparkling ciders. Bellwether Hard Cider is a member of the Cayuga Wine Trail.

Located in Romulus, New York, Knapp Winery was established in 1982. They sold their first estate grown wines in the spring of 1984. Knapp was the first winery in the Finger Lakes Appellation to plant and vinify the Cabernet Franc grape variety.

Torrey Ridge Winery is located in Penn Yan, NY on Seneca Lake. The 2008 New York Wine & Food Classis saw 14 medals for Torrey Ridge Winery. Along with 2 Golds, 6 Silvers and 6 Bronze medals, Torry Ridge also received Best of Class for their Concord and Blue Sapphire wines.

Americana Vineyards, located in Interlaken, NY, is located on the beautiful Cayuga Lake wine trail. Americana has been producing fabulous wine for over 20 years. They offer a diverse selection of wines, something for every palette.

Located in Penn Yan, New York, Prejean winery opened in 1986. Since then, Prejean Winery has grown and produced numerous award-winning wines including, Top 100 Wine Values in Wine & Spirits magazine twice as well as a recent Gold medal in the Canberra International Riesling Challenge for their 2007 Riesling.

Also from the Finger Lakes region, Hunt Country Vineyards is located in Branchport, NY on Keuka Lake. Art and Joyce Hunt, owners of Hunt Country, formed the Vineyard in 1987. Hunt Country first achieved national attention in the 1990s for Vidal Blanc Ice Wine. Since 2004, a variety of their wines have won over 60 major awards (Gold medal or higher distinction) in prestigious competitions across the United States.

A sister company of Torrey Ridge Winery, Earle Estates Meadery is also located on Seneca Lake in Penn Yan. Recognized consistently at national and international wine competitions, Earle Estates wines have received Gold, Silver and Bronze medals as well as several Fruit and Mead championships and best of class awards.
