Free CPR, AED and First-Aid Training for Veterans Oct. 6

OSWEGO COUNTY – The Oswego County Veterans’ Services Agency (VSA) offers a free cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), automated external defibrillator (AED) and first-aid essentials class to veterans and their immediate family members on Tuesday, Oct. 6.

Training begins at 8 a.m. at the Oswego County Emergency Response Training Center, 720 E. Seneca St., Oswego, and lasts between 4 to 6 hours. Participants will receive a one-year certification following the training.

“We’re proud to offer first-aid, CPR and AED training to our veterans and their families at no cost as part of our Joseph P. Dwyer Peer Support Program,” said Oswego County VSA Director Eric Boozer. “This hands-on training provides participants with a valuable opportunity to become certified in three essential life-saving skills, all in one convenient session. Participants will gain the knowledge, confidence and practical skills needed to respond quickly and effectively in an emergency and potentially help save a life.”

Registration is required by Wednesday, Sept. 30. There must be a minimum of five people enrolled for the class to be held.

The Joseph P. Dwyer Peer Support Program was founded in memory of PFC Joseph P. Dwyer, who served as a combat medic for the U.S. Army in Iraq. The nationwide program serves to provide support to veterans facing a wide range of challenges regarding their overall well-being and re-integration into civilian life.
