OSWEGO COUNTY – The Oswego County Department of Mobility Management and the Oswego County Veterans’ Services Agency (VSA) join forces to announce that veterans across the county can now ride Centro and Oswego County Public Transit buses for free.
“Centro recently announced its Veteran Ride Pass, which is available to veterans from all U.S. Armed Forces and Reserves,” said Oswego County VSA Director Eric Boozer. “This pass is valid for 10 years and offers unlimited rides, meaning it can be used as often as needed on all of Centro’s regular bus routes. We encourage veterans to come to our office to fill out an application so they can enjoy the benefit of free public transportation in and around Central New York.”
Oswego County Director of Mobility Management Heather Snow added, “We’re happy to announce that veterans can also ride Oswego County Public Transit buses for free. We know that veterans may be using our buses to connect to Centro routes outside of the county, so we want to ensure that their entire trip is free from start to finish. Once a veteran gets their Centro Veteran Ride Pass, they can also use it on our buses to ride fare-free. Simply present your pass to the bus driver, and you’re all set to go!”
Applications are available at the Oswego County Veterans’ Services Agency, located at 200 N. Second St. in Fulton. Once completed, a VSA employee will confirm the veterans’ eligibility and sign off on the application. The verified application can then be brought to a Centro facility so the veteran can have their photo taken and bus pass printed.
The local Centro facility is located at 512 E. Seneca St. in Oswego. It is open by appointment only on Wednesdays from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. To schedule an appointment, call 315-442-3333.
The Veteran Ride Pass is valid on all fixed-route Centro bus services in Oswego, Onondaga, Cayuga and Oneida counties. For more information about the program, visit https://www.centro.org/fares-passes/fares-and-passes/veteran-ride-pass-program/.
