Join a Summer Reading Program at Your Local Library

OSWEGO COUNTY – Beat the “summer slide” by signing up for a reading program at a public library in Oswego County! Summer reading programs encourage kids to continue reading over the summer and provide them with the chance to track their progress to win prizes.

Many local libraries will be following the North Country Library System’s 2024 summer reading theme, “Adventure Begins at Your Library.”

Program participants can track their reading and enter to win prizes at the end of the program. Some libraries have separate summer reading programs for children, teens and adults. Prizes vary by library, but include gift cards to local businesses, themed gift baskets, passes to local attractions and more.

Readers of all ages can also have a fun adventure by obtaining their Oswego County Libraries Summer Reading Passport! Visit four libraries located in Oswego County to be eligible to win a $25 Visa gift card, a $25 Amazon gift card, or a $25 Walmart gift card. Passports must be brought to each library visited to be stamped and, when full, can be turned in at any Oswego County library by Aug. 30. The drawing will be held on Sept. 24 and winners will be notified.

People can also participate in the North Country Library System’s Summer Library Adventure, which consists of activities to be done between July 1 and Sept. 2. Participants can complete any 10 of the 66 activities on the list to be entered to win a prize. Once finished, readers can return their adventure checklist to their local library or mail it directly to the North Country Library System at 22072 Co. Rte. 190, Watertown, N.Y. 13601. To view and print the checklist, visit https://ncls.libguides.com/ld.php?content_id=75540630.

Most libraries will host events throughout the summer as well. They include weekly story times, themed activities, guest visits and more. To learn about library events, contact your local library or visit its website to view the events calendar.
