The Weekly pick-up schedule is for bagged & contained yard waste and debris ONLY. Yard waste consists of: Leaves, Grass clippings, Yard rakings, Flower Garden weeding, etc. If your bag contains: papers, animal waste, or brush, they will be left behind as a rejection.

The Department requires the use of biodegradable bags for these items and recommends the use of reusable containers such as pails, or trash cans labeled “YARD WASTE” –no larger than 30-gallons.

DO NOT put the bags &/or pails in the road. This will be considered littering and could be subject to a fine.

These items are to be placed out for pick-up the evening before-or the morning of-the scheduled day only. Please have items out by 7:00am.

UNCONTAINED yard waste and debris will not be picked up.

BRUSH PICK-UP is done on a citywide basis, starting at the southwest end of the city, and working our way to the northeast end, then starting over again. It is very important that brush (tree limbs) be kept separate from yard waste and debris, in order to maximize our chipping operation. The Department will only pick up brush and limbs that are (4”) or less in diameter, that can be readily chipped in our chipper. All brush and limbs must be neatly stacked between the sidewalk and curb with the butt ends facing the same direction. Stumps and roots will not be picked up.

The DPW will also provide large yard waste dumpsters that residents can request by contacting the DPW. The containers will be placed in the street at or near a property so long as it is a safe location and not impeding traffic or blocking driveways. The containers will only be placed in the street and will not be placed in driveways or yards.

IN, ADDITION, THE LOT East of the DPW at 114 Mitchell Street, is available for dumping YARD WASTE ONLY which needs to be separated by type according to the signage in the lot. The lot is open Mon-Fri 7-3, and Saturdays from 9-Noon.

If you have any questions concerning this matter, please contact the Department of Public Works during the business hours of 7:00am-3:00pm, Monday-Friday, at 315-342-4212.
