OSWEGO COUNTY – Oswego County STOP-DWI Coordinator David Hall announced that police agencies and STOP-DWI coordinators across the state will join forces to raise awareness about the dangers of impaired driving and provide additional law enforcement patrols throughout the month of June.
The “High Visibility Engagement Campaigns” will focus on the “100 Days of Summer” with particular emphasis on the following dates in June:
- Thursday, June 5 through Sunday, June 8
- Thursday, June 12 through Sunday, June 15
- Thursday, June 19 through Sunday, June 22
- Thursday, June 26 through Sunday, June 29
“There are a lot of fun things to do over the summer; however, because many events involve the use of alcohol there is also an increase in alcohol-related injuries and deaths this time of the year,” Hall said. “We urge those who plan to consume alcohol or any other mind-altering substance to have a plan before you start. Have a designated driver, call a taxi or a rideshare service, or walk – please, just don’t drive. Impaired driving is completely preventable. All it takes is a little planning.”
Everyone can help make a difference by having a sober plan. People can download the ‘Have a Plan’ mobile app at www.stopdwi.org/mobileapp, which provides them with a safe ride home.
This joint campaign is just one of the many statewide initiatives promoted by STOP-DWI New York and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee to reduce the incidence of drunk and impaired driving, prevent injuries and save lives. High Visibility Engagement Campaigns also target the end of summer and Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, the December holiday season, Super Bowl, St. Patrick’s Day, 420 Drug Day, Memorial Day and July 4th.
