Oswego County Reminds Residents About Early Voting

OSWEGO COUNTY – The Oswego County Board of Elections (BOE) reminds residents that early voting begins next Saturday, Oct. 24 and continues through Sunday, Nov. 1. Election day is Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Polls will be open on Nov. 3 from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Those voting on Nov. 3 can find their poll site by visiting https://voterlookup.elections.ny.gov/.

Other important dates to know include:

  • 24: the last day an individual can register to vote
  • 24: the last day a voter can request a mail-in ballot through the mail
  • 30: the last day a voter can change their address
  • 2: the last day a voter can request a mail-in ballot in person

New York State law requires that mail-in ballots must be postmarked by election day and received by the local BOE office within seven days of election day to be valid and counted.

To avoid any delays which could put a voter’s ballot at risk of being ruled invalid, the United States Postal Service (USPS) suggests that voters mail their ballots as early as possible. The federal agency recommends sending them at least one week before election day to ensure it is postmarked before that date and received by the local BOE office in time to be counted.

Oswego County BOE also urges mail-in voters to return their ballots well before the Nov. 3 deadline. Recent USPS changes may mean that mail is not postmarked on the day it is received by the post office. To ensure their ballot is dated correctly, voters may want to consider taking it directly to a post office and requesting a manual postmark at the counter that day, rather than depositing it in a public collection box or their private mailbox.
