Town and Village of Mexico Launch Farmers’ Market

MEXICO – The Town and Village of Mexico are excited to announce the launch of the Mexico Farmers’ Market! The market runs from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays, beginning July 2 and continuing through Aug. 27. It will be located at the athletic stadium behind Mexico High School, 3338 Main St.

This event is part of the broader effort the Town and Village are making in the development of a new Agricultural and Farmland Protection Plan. That effort is coordinated by the municipalities, partners, and supporters including the Mexico Academy and Central School District, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oswego County, National Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and the Oswego County Soil and Water Conservation District.

Mexico Farmers’ Market is a new effort to support area farmers and provide more opportunities for residents and visitors to buy local agricultural products, including produce and flowers.

There will also be live music at the Village Gazebo, courtesy of the Mexico Chamber of Commerce, and a selection of food trucks and different types of children’s activities. The Town and Village are also working on offering family movies after the market closes.

The Mexico Farmers’ Market is still accepting applications from vendors in the following areas:

  • agricultural vendors (fresh produce, meat products, eggs, honey, maple syrup, cut flowers, mushrooms, grains, herbs, etc.)
  • food vendors (food trucks, baked goods, jams and jellies, maple syrup products, cheese and other dairy products, non-alcoholic beverages, etc.)
  • craft vendors (all crafts must be homemade, agriculturally related products such as candles, goat milk soaps, lotions, handcrafted wood products, etc.)
  • non-profit vendors (different organizations looking to highlight the positive work they are doing in the community.)

Those interested in being a vendor can find an application at https://mexicony.org/farmers-market.html. Vendors can participate with a seasonal pass that covers all nine weeks of the market for $100, or by the week at $15 per week. All local agricultural producers, food and craft vendors and non-profit vendors looking to expand sales or public outreach to the community are encouraged to participate.

The Mexico Farmers’ Market will be open rain or shine, with hopes for expanding next year to be inside during inclement weather.

A partial list of maps, events, musicians, food trucks and vendors will be available at https://mexicony.org and on the Mexico NY Past, Present, and Comprehensive Planning for the Future Facebook page.
