Town of Hannibal Plans Earth Day Cleanup

HANNIBAL, NY Town of Hannibal will be hosting its annual Earth Day cleanup event on April 20th from 9am- 12pm. Volunteers will be picking up roadside garbage in the town. Town of Hannibal Highway Superintendent Jake Malcott will be providing a truck for garbage collection that will be parked at the Hannibal Municipal Building. “We are asking that members of the Hannibal community come out and dedicate a few hours of their time to help clean up our roadsides” said Floyd Calkins, Hannibal Town Supervisor. “This our 7th year doing the cleanup, and it’s become a big success” Calkins stated.

Local business, Wood-Mizer Northeast, will be assisting the town’s efforts by supplying trash bags and trucks to pick up trash. “We are delighted to help our neighbors and community by assisting with the town’s roadside cleanup” said Jack Beckwith, Jr. of Wood-Mizer. “Many of our customers travel from hundreds of miles away to our business in Hannibal, and they often comment on how nice our town is. We are proud to call Hannibal our home,” said Beckwith.

Oswego County Soil & Water has partnered with the Town’s efforts by donating gloves for cleanup volunteers.

Volunteers are asked to meet at the Hannibal Municipal Building at 824 Cayuga Street at 8:45am to obtain bags and safety gear and to discuss cleanup routes. “If this event doesn’t fit your schedule, please consider doing your part to clean up the roads around your neighborhood when you can” said Calkins.
