Apply Now For Oswego County PJC Scholarship

OSWEGO, NY – Applications are now being accepted for the Muriel Allerton Scholarship Award given each year by the Professional Journalists and Communicators (PJC) of Oswego County.

Graduating high school seniors throughout the county who are planning to continue their education in a communications-related field are invited to apply for the $1,000 prize.

Candidates must submit a letter of application that includes the college or university they will be attending as well as their choice of major.

They must also send two writing samples or a portfolio of their completed work as it relates to their chosen field of study.

Applicants must also include two letters of professional recommendation.

These can come from teachers, mentors, or employers.

All applications must be typed and neatly organized with a cover sheet that lists the student’s name, address, phone number and high school.

Incomplete entries will not be considered.

Submissions should be sent to PJC of Oswego County, P.O. Box 3002, Oswego, N.Y. 13126 and must be postmarked no later than June 14.

Scholarship criterion includes the level of interest that applicants have demonstrated in their chosen field of study and the aptitude and proficiency each has displayed during his or her high school career.

Past award recipients have included students who chose careers in print or broadcast journalism, public relations, advertising or graphic design.

The winner will receive the award at the PJC’s annual scholarship dinner.

The date for the dinner will be announced in upcoming weeks.
