APPS Offers a New Youth Services DVD

Submitted article

Beginning this summer, Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention and Services (APPS) will be offering a new DVD that highlights many of the programs and services available to youth in Oswego County. AmeriCorps member, Brittany Place, has been working on this project since she began her service at APPS in September 2007.

The DVD is meant for youth in out-of-county residential placement. When they come out of their placement and re-enter Oswego County, they often do not have access to the same kinds of programs and services they had available during their placement. With this DVD youth can learn about the programs and get all of the important contact information. For some of the programs featured on the DVD there are teen testimonials.  These short segments allow youth to listen to other teens about the programs. These sections give teens a peer’s perspective about the services highlighted on the DVD.

Considering that not every program could be put on the DVD, APPS is also offering a Youth Yellow Pages. This pocket-sized directory provides teens with a more comprehensive guide to useful programs and services. Each entry has a description and telephone number so that youth can contact the programs they are interested in.

This DVD will become available to youth and their caseworkers this summer. If you have any questions or are interested in receiving the DVD please contact Linda Eagan, Oswego County BOCES APPS program coordinator, at 963-4361.
