FULTON, NY – ARC of Oswego County has announced that its 4th Annual ARC of Oswego Gala fundraiser will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2009 from 7 to 11pm, in the elegant surroundings of Oasis at Thunder Island in Fulton. The Gala will feature a buffet dinner, live entertainment from the Oswego Jazz Project, dancing, a silent auction, raffles, and more. Tickets are $50 per person and are available by calling (315) 598-3108. All proceeds support ARC of Oswego County.

“Fundraising this year is more challenging than ever, as the economy has affected so many of our sponsors and donors,” said Stephanie Crowley, Director of Communications and Community Relations for ARC of Oswego County. “We’re tremendously grateful for those who have chosen to support us again this year, in whatever way they can, and we’re looking forward to a really wonderful and entertaining event. Not only will it be a great evening out, but it will help support crucial programs in our community.”

ARC of Oswego County currently provides services to over 400 individuals who have intellectual or other developmental disabilities. Among the services provided is Early Intervention, in which trained professionals evaluate and assist children between birth and age 3, and offer education and support to families of children with disabilities. Early detection and support of developmental disabilities is critical, as children who receive assistance services before age 3 are shown to need only half of the services of the course of their lifetime as children whose disabilities are not identified until pre-school or later. Other services provided by ARC of Oswego County include Guardianship Assistance for families, Social-Recreation and Respite programs, and Day Habilitation for senior citizens with disabilities.

The Oswego Jazz Project is the faculty jazz quartet-in-residence at SUNY Oswego. Since its inception in 2006, the OJP has released two well-received CDs, Oswego Jazz Project (2007) and And the Time is Now (2008), each of which garnered enthusiastic reviews. Members include Jazz Studies Director Dr. Eric Schmitz (drums), Dr. Robert Auler (keyboards), Trevor Jorgensen (saxophones) and Oswego alumnus Max McKee (bass). OJP performs a wide range of jazz styles including standards, Latin, contemporary selections, ballads and original compositions. Performing with the quartet will be some of SUNY Oswego’s most talented student musicians.

Sponsors for this year include News 10 Now as Television Sponsor, Sunny 102 as Radio Sponsor, and sponsorships from Alliance Bank, Fulton Savings Bank, HSBC, and other local businesses and organizations. Silent auction donors include Serendipity Bed & Breakfast, Dunkin’ Donuts, Ontario Orchards, the Coons family, Oswego Opera Theatre, and more.

ARC of Oswego County is a private, not-for-profit organization which has been providing programs and services to children and seniors with disabilities since 1955. Services include Early Intervention and evaluation services for infants and toddlers, guardianship assistance, recreational and respite activities, senior day habilitation programs, and more. Its mission is to be a leader in the field of developmental disabilities, committed to meeting the needs of individual growth, productivity, and independence through education, advocacy, and increased community acceptance and participation. Its sister agency, Oswego Industries, Inc., provides services to adults with disabilities: together creating a comprehensive support system for Oswego County residents with disabilities.
