ARC of Oswego Teaches Sportsmanship Through Basketball League

Submitted by ARC of Oswego County

The ARC of Oswego County basketball leagues have been a part of the nonprofit’s Social-Recreation program for years, and they are quickly rising in popularity among the adults with disabilities served by the organization.

Now with 18 participants, the basketball leagues welcome individuals of all skill levels and stage competitive games twice per month during the season.

Although the players – many of them adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities – are learning to dribble, pass, shoot, and defend, they are also learning more important lessons.

A seemingly simple practice gives abundant opportunities to learn patience, good sportsmanship, teamwork, determination, and camaraderie.
