Lanigan Elementary School first graders recently blasted off into space during a classroom astronomy lesson.

Teacher Karrie Schremp said her students had become fully engaged in hands-on lessons during an astronomy (Domain 6) Listening and Learning Unit, as they made solar system hats, rocket ships, moon phases watches and completed a writing activity where they applied to become an astronaut.
A culmination activity was offered to students, and encouraged them to dress up as astronauts, characters from Star Wars or a space galaxy.
Because of all of the engaging information, students were able to discuss with other another about the planets, phases of the moon, job duties of astronauts, the sun and space.
