Granby Elementary School welcomed a special visit last week by famed husband and wife author and illustrator team, Mary Jane and Herm Auch.

The Auchs stopped by the school to visit with students in the grades three through six.
Several small group presentations gave students an opportunity to spend time with the Auchs and learn about the inspiration for many of their books and the how they work cooperatively to generate the illustrations that bring their literary works to life.
Mary Jane spoke about the writing process and the importance of developing characters and an interesting plot along with creating a problem for the main character so that readers maintain an interest in the story.

The pair also discussed their process and techniques for mixing multi-mediums and generating three-dimensional illustrations for some of their books.
The students learned about the software and technology that the Auchs use to create and manipulate illustrations and how they achieved the illustrations for some of the students’ favorite books including Chickerella and The Plot Chickens.
