GRANBY – Kate Messner, author of children’s and young adult books including the popular “Ranger in Time” series, was a recent guest visitor at Granby Elementary School.

She currently has 24 books out now, with a dozen more in production and due out in the next few years.
Messner talked about the process of creating the books, writing and then getting them published before they could be in the hands of young people.
Students asked her questions about where she gets ideas, how she knows it’s a good book, what the process is for getting it illustrated, published and more.
She talked about traveling around the world to do research for her books and about her life on the shores of Lake Champlain in Northern New York and how she draws inspiration for writing from everyday experiences and even headlines in the news.

One such book “Wake Up Missing” was inspired by the controversy surrounding the high incidence of concussion in sports.
One of her books, “Ranger in Time, Rescue on the Oregon Trail” was used by the Battle of the Books competition held last spring.
During her time in the Fulton City Schools, Messner also visited other schools to talk about her books and the experience of writing.
