OSWEGO – Kingsford Park Elementary School honored Oswego City Police Department Officer Thomas Grover at its recent Citizenship Awards, with the entire student body pitching in to thank him for the “opportunity to have Officer Grover be part of our lives.”
The school’s monthly Citizenship Awards recognize students who have shown outstanding achievement in representing a positive trait for the month.
November’s trait of ‘grateful’ was well-represented at the full-school assembly on Nov. 27.
“Office Grover is truly a wonderful, awesome male role-model and has given our students a new outlook on who a police officer really is – a person there to help,” said KPS teacher Melissa Stafford.
Students presented Grover with handmade art and signs as well as a stuffed police officer doll of Grover of The Muppets.
“I’ve had a great time here at Kingsford Park and in every school I’ve visited,” said Grover. “Everybody has really gotten on board with the program and is enthusiastic about it.”
Grover is finishing up the D.A.R.E. program for his first group of classes this month. D.A.R.E.
Graduation ceremonies for the district will be held the week of Dec. 19.
School and city officials had high praise for Grover, whose “warm friendly smile,” and “tireless work” made him a welcome sight around the district for teachers and students.
“We are extremely proud of what Officer Grover has accomplished in the short time he’s been involved with the district programs,” said OPD Chief Tory DeCaire, adding that Grover was a perfect choice to lead department outreach to students as he “excels at community interaction especially when dealing with youth in our community.”
