Fulton, NY – Ever felt unappreciated or underpaid at your job? Local author Tracy L. Kinne understands your plight and shares her feelings on the subject in her book, “On Sale: Employers Get Good Workers Dirt Cheap.”
In 2007, she accepted a buyout and left the newspaper she had worked at for the past 19 years.
Six months later, the Great Recession began.
She rode out the recession, and the years after, as a low-paid sales associate and cashier at a chain store.
“On Sale: Employers Get Good Workers Dirt Cheap” is her first book, a memoir of her four years at the store she calls Big Box.
It is the story of Kinne and her coworkers, an under appreciated, underpaid, but intelligent, hard-working group of compassionate, down-to-earth individuals.
In “On Sale: Employers Get Good Workers Dirt Cheap” Kinne shares her experiences and that of her coworkers which included, young people finishing college but unable to find jobs in their chosen fields; middle-aged people who can’t find a decent job after the place where they worked for 30 years laid them off or closed; and senior citizens who can’t make ends meet on Social Security.
The book received honorable mention at both the 2012 New York Book Festival and the 2012 Paris Book Festival.
A graduate of the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, Syracuse University, where she earned a Bachelors of Science Degree in Newspapers, Kinne has worked as an editor and reporter for several publications including the Watertown Daily Times, The Post Standard, and the Oswego County Weeklies.
She is also a freelance writer for State University of New York School of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse, and writes her own blog entitled “Beyond the Newsroom” regarding social justice and environmental issues.
