Four winners were announced in the School Age Child Care Bike Safety Poster Contest sponsored by the Oswego County Traffic Safety Board and Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee.
The students were charged with drawing or painting informative, educational posters that told about bike rules of the road and the importance of wearing a helmet while riding.
All winners were awarded bike locks, new helmets, air pumps, bike lights, and special ducks to remind them “Don’t Duck Out On Safety!”
In the Best Rules category, Willow Sue Knapp, age 7, won from the YMCA Oswego School Age Program, for her interpretation of proper safety gear, including wearing sneakers.
Alex Carl, age 12, pictured with his Mom, from Scriba School Age Program won a prize for Best Slogan when he thought up, “Protect Your Noodle” to remind kids to protect their brains by wearing a bike helmet.
From the Fulton School Age Program, Jacob Bailey, age 10, pictured with his dad, won for his rendition of several bike safety rules, including keeping your bike in good working order, and how to wear your helmet correctly.
Whitney Daino, age 10, Scriba School Age Program, won for her painted poster depicting cars and bikes going in the same direction, also an important safety rule for bikers to remember.
