“I have always wanted to work with children. When I was applying for counseling internships I was looking for opportunity to work with children. A friend suggested the CAC and told me that the people who worked there were great. When I visited the CAC for an interview I had a great feeling about working there and I gladly accepted the internship,” explained Bonnell.

Bonnell will be working closely with the counseling staff at the CAC and assisting with the counseling of the victims of abuse and their families.

While she has only been at the CAC for a short time, Bonnell enjoys her work as a counselor and appreciates the efforts of the CAC.

“Everyone at the CAC truly cares about the children and families they serve. I truly believe that the services they receive from the CAC greatly benefit the children and their families. Without counseling and the other services that the CAC provides these families would not be getting the help that they need. Most insurance providers and HMOs only pay for a select number of counseling sessions and require large co-pays and deductibles,” she said.

“By providing services free of charge to youth between the ages of 2 and 18 and their families who have experienced sexual abuse or severe physical abuse, the CAC is helping to make the entire community a better place to live. I find it very rewarding and fulfilling to know that the work we are doing with the CAC is making a difference in the lives of the youth and families we serve,” said Bonnell.

“We are fortunate that Kristen chose to do her internship with us,” said Damm. “Her counseling skills, and the fact that her career goal is to work with children who have experienced trauma, make her a perfect fit for our staff.”

Located at 301 Beech St., the CAC of Oswego County is a non-profit charitable organization that provides a safe, child-friendly site for the investigation, prosecution and treatment of child abuse.
