Fulton, NY – Executive Director of the United Way of Greater Oswego County, Melanie Trexler, has announced that the Wal-Mart store in Granby will be hosting a book drive in support of the United Way’s Success By 6 program. An initiative that strives to improve the early childhood development of children throughout Oswego County, Success By 6 distributes books to children throughout the year to encourage literacy and introduce children to the joys of reading.

On Saturday, September 26th from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday, September 27th from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., the Wal-Mart store in Granby will be accepting donations of new and gently used children’s books. All books collected will be donated to the United Way’s Success By 6 program.

“We truly appreciate the support that we receive from the volunteer team at the Granby Wal-Mart,” said Trexler. “Since volunteering to help the Success By 6 program in May they have contributed countless hours of their time. More than a dozen employees and their families helped us distribute children’s books during the Memorial Day Parade in Fulton and the Independence Day Parade in Oswego. In addition, more than 40 employees volunteered their time to help us collect school supplies during our ‘Stuff-A-Bus’ campaign in August. They are an enthusiastic group who we are proud to count amongst our volunteers. They truly are friends of the United Way.”

Wal-Mart Associate, Ashley Haughton, who is looking forward to a successful book drive, is happy to support the Success By 6 program. “We enjoy being United Way volunteers. After participating in the parades and seeing the excitement on the children’s faces when they receive a book, we wanted to do more. We hope to see many of our community members lend their support to our children’s book drive,” she said.
