Book Sale Benefits United Way

FULTON, NY – As part of their annual employee campaign in support of the United Way of Greater Oswego County, Oswego County Department of Social Services recently held a used book sale.

The event, which was held the last week of September, raised more than $200 for the agency.

The annual book sale is another way in which Oswego County government employees can demonstrate their support of the United Way and reach their goal for this year’s campaign.

“In these times of limited resources we wanted to help raise some additional funds for the United Way,” said John Ferry, who along with Kathy Fenlon, serves as co-chair of Oswego County government’s employee campaign for the United Way. “Many of our partner agencies receive some funding through the United Way and we want to help support them. I get to see the benefits of what the United Way can do every day either through our partner agencies or through our customers. We understand how important these agencies are to our community. We also realize many county residents rely on programs funded, in part, by the United Way. These programs help to improve lives throughout the county. This is our way of supporting the United Way, partner agencies, and county residents. It’s our way of showing we care about our neighbors.”

Ferry also praised the efforts of his co-workers for making the book sale a success.

“I really enjoy coordinating our agency fundraising efforts. However I would not be able to do this with the support of my co-workers, including Jill Wood, Annette Perry and Denise Bowering who helped organize the book sale, and the support I receive from our commissioner, Frances Lanigan,” he said.

DSS is one of many departments who are participating in the Oswego County Government employee campaign for the United Way.
