Bright Horizons Members Support ‘Stuff-A-Bus’

PULASKI, NY – Members of Catholic Charities’ Bright Horizons Clubhouse in Pulaski have been shopping recently to help support the United Way of Greater Oswego County’s Success By 6 ‘Stuff-A-Bus’ campaign.

The members, who enjoy taking part in community service projects, spent their own time and money as they shopped on their own to buy school supplies to donate to the ‘Stuff-A-Bus’ campaign.

“I was happy to see so many of our members take an interest in the ‘Stuff-A-Bus’ campaign,” said Jill Slocum, program advisor at the Bright Horizons Clubhouse. “They had fun picking out the school supplies and were happy to be able to help provide children in need with the supplies they need to begin to the school year.”

Located at 3412 A Maple Ave. in Pulaski, Catholic Charities’ Bright Horizons Clubhouse is recipient run with the aid of peer support and provides a community service club for past and current recipients of mental health services.

“Our emphasis at Bright Horizons is on the rehabilitating properties of cooperative volunteer work, socialization and informal presentation,” explained Slocum. “Our members work together to keep the club running smoothly.”

As program advisor, Slocum helps members with every aspect of operating the clubhouse including preparing meals, planning activities, handling phone calls, household chores and whatever else needs to be done to successfully run the clubhouse.

“Our members enjoy being involved with their community and being a part of Bright Horizons,” added Slocum. “This is a very rural area. Having a club like Bright Horizons available to provide members with social interaction is wonderful. It is a positive experience for them to join us for lunch and share a meal with their fellow members. They truly look forward to their community service projects and were thrilled to be able to do something for the children.”

The Success By 6 ‘Stuff-A-Bus’ campaign, which began in June, was initiated to collect school supplies so that children in need throughout Oswego County would have the supplies they need to begin the new school year.

Items donated will be distributed in each Oswego County school district to children in need.

Bright Horizons Clubhouse is open Monday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
