Buc Fest Celebration Set Saturday

OSWEGO, NY – Buc Fest, celebrating ‘We are All Buccaneers,” takes place Saturday at Wilber Field

The Oswego Buccaneer Boosters created this event a few years ago and it has grown in leaps in bounds.

Many Oswego High School athletic teams are involved in this weekend’s Homecoming Weekend which includes Buc Fest, the Hall of Fame induction ceremony, football game and golf tournament. The golf tournament on Sunday at Battle Island will have numerous door prizes and silent auction items. Gathering to display some of the items are Lady Buc softball coach Mike McCrobie, student-athlete Emily Kolenda, Lady Buc Varsity Lacrosse Coach Laura Burger, student-athlete Brittany Kearns and Lady Bucs Varsity Basketball Coach Phil Reed.

Buc Fest kicks off at 12:30 p.m. and will continue until 3 p.m. when the homecoming football  game pitting Corcoran against Oswego will take to the gridiron.

The Buc Fest event is open to all Oswego school children, their families and the community with admission of $2. There will be inflatables to enjoy as well as a special appearance by “Jeff the Magic Man.” Music, face painting, a variety of food and games will be available with all proceeds going to support the athletic teams that were involved in the Buc Fest effort.

In the event of rain the Oswego High School gyms and cafeteria will be the setting for Buc Fest.

Anyone wearing Buc Blue will receive a free Buccaneer tattoo.

Saturday will be an exciting day as Homecoming 2011 comes to a conclusion.

At noon the annual parade will begin on West First Street, proceed down Bridge Street and end at the area of the athletic complex.

Following the football game the homecoming dance will be held at Frederick Leighton gym at 7 p.m. while across Buccaneer Boulevard the newest inductees into the Oswego Athletic Hall of Fame will receive their plaques in a festive event in the OHS dining facility.

Sunday afternoon the Hall of Fame Golf Classic will be held at Battle Island with sign in at 1 p.m. and a shotgun start at 1:30 p.m. Registration is still open for $75 a person or $300 a team.  Further information can be obtained by contacting Athletic Director Scott Sugar at [email protected].

Numerous door prizes will be available and there will be a silent auction for numerous items including an autographed baseball jersey by Atlanta Brave Brian McCann as well as an Adirondack chair and numerous other items.
