‘BucFest’ Celebration Open to All, Highlights Homecoming

OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego Buccaneer Boosters are sponsoring the second annual “BucFest” party to celebrate Homecoming and kick off the Buccaneers’ varsity home football game.

“BucFest” is set for Oct. 9 from 3-6 p.m. at Joe Wilber Field in Oswego.

The cost of the event is only one “buc” for students and two “bucs” for adults.

Then, attendees can stay to watch the football game at 7 p.m.

The event will feature live music by “Vitamin X” and will be a fun-filled afternoon with great food, games, prizes, inflatables, and even a dunk booth.

BucFest committee chair Judy Queale-Dunsmoor said, “This is just a fantastic event where students, teachers, administrators and community members all come together to have fun, volunteer, and take pride in our school district. Our primary goal is to raise school spirit and a sense of pride in being an Oswego Buccaneer.”

In that endeavor, there are tents set up where participants can get their hair and nails colored in “Buc Blue” as well as make a stop at the face painting/temporary tattoo booth.

Committee members will be on the lookout for the best dressed “Buccaneer” and will award a hand-held video camera to that costume winner during the football game.

There will be several inflatable games such as a bouncy house, obstacle course and the brand new, sure to be popular “wrecking ball” which is sponsored by Pathfinder Bank.

In addition there will be “hippity hop” races for adults and kids of all ages, a football throw, and guitar hero.

Attendees can pick their ball of choice and enter the radar gun sports contest, or decorate a pumpkin to take home with them.

One of the most popular activities last year was the “dunk booth” where students took turns trying to get their teachers or coaches soaked.

This year a “tomato throw” has been added to the fun.

On the menu at BucFest 2009, are pizza, chili, chicken barbecue, New York Bold Bloomin’ onions, fried dough, cotton candy, candy apples and much more.

The Buc Boosters goal is to keep the day affordable for the community, so games will be either free or at a minimal cost.

Every “BucFest” visitor will receive a snack from Frito Lay, and “Buc blue beads” as they enter the gates ( while supplies last).

Children can get their photos taken with New York Bold’s “Chef Bold,” Frito Lay’s “Cracker Jack,” or our very own “Oswego Buccaneer.”

There will be Oswego apparel and paraphernalia for sale.

The official “BucFest 2009” T-shirt designed and donated in part by Visual Creations will also be on sale during BucFest, with a limited number of shirts available.

According to the junior class advisors, Oswego High School students will decide on a teacher or administrator who will earn the privilege of kissing a pig, which will be done at “BucFest.”

In addition to the festival, the Buccaneer Boosters are promoting a “Buccaneer Blue Week” throughout Oswego from Oct. 3 through 10.

The Boosters will give a prize to the business owner and the home owner who do the best job decorating for “Buccaneer Blue Week.”

Photos for consideration should be postmarked by Oct. 16, to attn: BucFest/Buccaneer Boosters, P.O. Box 373, Oswego, NY 13126.

BucFest committee member Lu Collins said, “We are hoping to have another great turnout for this year’s Homecoming Pre-game festival. We also encourage the Oswego community to get out and watch the Homecoming Parade on Oct. 4 at 4:30 p.m., the girls’ powder puff game following at Joe Wilbur field at 6 p.m., or any of the Oswego School district sporting events that are taking place during Homecoming week.”
